The Timeless Allure of Kitsap County
It’s hard to know where to start when thinking of all the beautiful reasons there are to love Kitsap County. As an avid outdoorsman, a coffee aficionado, and a longtime lover of all things water, Kitsap encompasses all of these classic PNW aspects and more. Bainbridge Island, Poulsbo and Hansville are some of my favorite areas of the county, and each has an allure all its own.
I have lived on Bainbridge Island and in North Kitsap County for over 35 years, and this place has heart. There are so many reasons to admire and respect this wonderful community; the culture, the sweeping natural beauty and the bustling hubs of the downtowns. I love walking along the shore and happening upon a blue heron wading through the sunlit tide, or strolling through the marina to one of the many local wineries for a glass of merlot while the sun sets. Bainbridge Island makes a great getaway, but it makes an even better home. With one of the best school districts in the area, a close-knit community and beautiful Pacific Northwest forests, trails and beaches all outside your door, the island is an all-around magnificent place to live.

Less than 14 miles away from the island is a favorite town of mine: Poulsbo, Washington, where I now reside on the world famous and forever beloved Hood Canal. Another place to take full advantage of the parks and trails (the city has 137 acres of parks) as well as the fascinating Scandinavian and Suquamish cultural history, Poulsbo has long been a popular destination for people of all ages. However, Poulsbo is quickly becoming a sought-after place to call home as opposed to a simple day trip. As a town that prides itself on progressive ideals, walkability and preserving their beautiful parks and natural landscape, many are making the move to this waterfront village.

Hansville is located on the very northern tip of the Kitsap Peninsula (about 16 miles north of Poulsbo). This city has an abundance of marine-related activities and it is also a common destination for outdoor enthusiasts due to the area’s lower than average rainfall. One very photogenic and lively spot to make sure and visit is the Point No Point Lighthouse, located on more than 60 acres of sandy beach amongst the driftwood and soft seagrass dancing in the wind. Hansville is the ultimate seaside getaway to escape the unrelenting bigger city life.
